What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis Is A Naturally Occurring State of Mind. Everyone Has Already Experienced Hypnosis, By Accident or By Design.
What is Hypnotherapy and how does it work?
As long as human beings and other living animals have inhabited this planet, there has been hypnosis.
We use this commonly occurring ,and natural state of mind, unknowingly, all the time. It is just natural for us. For example, if you have ever watched a television program or movie and become really absorbed into the program, you were probably in a trance. This trance is what caused you to not hear your mother calling you to dinner, until she raised her voice for the third time. (Advertisers understand this. They use television programs to induce a hypnotic trance and then provide you hypnotic suggestions, called commercials!)
Another common example of this naturally occurring state of mind
When you are driving down the road, with your mind focused on some other task (a day dream perhaps), and next thing you know, you have passed your next turn. That is called “highway hypnosis”.
The U.S. government defines hypnosis as having two parts:
(1) the bypass of the critical factor, and (2) the establishment of acceptable selective thinking.
This seems to be a useful and accurate definition of hypnosis.
This “bypass of the critical factor” simply means the release of limiting beliefs. For example, the use of hypnosis for anesthesia has been accepted by the American Medical Association since 1958. It is well established to be a fact that hypnosis is useful for creating anesthesia. However, if you have the limiting belief that the mind cannot create a powerful anesthesia, you will be unable to do so. However, in hypnosis, this limiting belief can be bypassed, and hypnotic anesthesia can be quickly created. “The establishment of acceptable selective thinking,” the second part of the definition, refers to the process of guiding someone into hypnosis by using a hypnotic induction. The establishment of selective thinking creates the mental environment or state of mind that enables you to reject limiting beliefs (that you picked up by living in our society), so that you can accept new more empowering ones.
The hypnotic state is an optimum state for making changes in your life.
You can set aside limiting beliefs that may have been preventing you from moving toward a more healthy, and happy you.
What do I need to do to realize benefits from hypnosis?
After you have established your positive goal, you must…
1. WANT to make a change,
2. BELIEVE you can make the change,
3. EXPECT that you will succeed, and
4. FOLLOW THROUGH with all suggested “assignments.”
What are some things that hypnotherapy is useful for?
A list of issues a hypnotherapist would assist with includes, but is not limited to:
Who can benefit from hypnosis?
Adults, senior citizens, teens, and children benefit from work done in hypnosis sessions.
How long will it take to reach my goal?
Most people need more than one session to make the changes they desire. However, it is not uncommon to see lasting positive change occur in less than 3 sessions. David offers various programs that range from three to twelve sessions to meet his clients’ needs. A session may take 30 to 90 minutes depending on the work you want to do.
Am I Hypnotizable?
The answer is “Yes”. Everyone is hypnotizable, and most people go into a trance multiple times a day. The only difference with hypnosis is that we are leading you into that state purposefully, and utilizing it to help you achieve your goals. Most of the time, when someone believes they cannot be hypnotized, that belief comes from a lack of knowledge of what hypnosis IS, or a fear of loss of control. Please read the next section to address that concern. Now – some people go into a trance more easily than others, and some can do it more quickly than others. Some people have a ‘gift’ for hypnosis, and some need a little time to learn the skill. Which are you?
Will I lose control in Hypnosis?
No. In fact, hypnosis is a state of heightened focus and awareness.
What If I Get Stuck In A Trance?
Everyone goes in and out of trance every day. It is a naturally occurring state, and it naturally goes away if it is not ended purposefully. Should your hypnotherapist leave and go to a nice sun soaked beach in the middle of a session you would simply wake up or simply drift into a natural sleep and wake up when you feel like it.
Is hypnosis medically approved? Will insurance pay for hypnosis?
Yes, the American Medical Association has accepted the therapeutic use of hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is frequently used as a complementary technique along with medical treatment. Some insurance companies may cover hypnotherapy for childbirth programs and medical conditions, so contact your insurance provider and/or your FSA, HRA, and HSA plan. The Internal Revenue Service requires a doctor’s statement be provided for certain healthcare expenses in order to be reimbursed from your healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA). The doctor’s statement must indicate the specific medical disorder, the specific treatment needed, and how this treatment will alleviate the medical condition. **Some services may require a medical referral. If you have a medical condition, please share this information with David and provide documentation.
When and how do I pay for services?
You will pay for services before your session or sessions begin. David will discuss the investment costs before the session begins. You may pay with cash, check, and most major credit cards or upon request, you may make payment via email invoice through PayPal. All emailed invoices will be sent out in advance of your appointment and must be paid prior to commencing your session.
How long does it take before I see results?
Obviously each person is different as is each reason for entering into hypnosis. However, studies indicate that anywhere from one to six sessions result in positive behaviour changes.

So now you know that you can be hypnotized.
You have done it literally thousands of times. You did it yourself when you were daydreaming and missed that turn (self-hypnosis), you have been hypnotized when you enjoyed a television program (being hypnotized by someone else), and you have followed hypnotic and post-hypnotic suggestions when you preferred some brand name that you saw repeatedly on television (hypnotic compounding of suggestion).
